Foodstuffs like the so-called “superfoods” are those that possess inconceivable health benefits. There may be lots of it across the food pyramid starting from the well-known strawberry to not noticeable watercress vegetable. Anyway, the watercress is a spinach-like vegetable with a heavy dose of nutrients which includes Vitamin K, beta carotene and a few other important cancer-fighting types. One of the reasons why avocados are such an awesome food is because it consists of Guacamole. This fruit have incredibly nutrient dense containing about 1/3 of the recommended daily intake (RDI) of vitamin K and folate. Also, it is a good source of vitamins B6 and C, aids digestion, stabilizes blood sugar, improves eye health and can help with weight loss.

This may be a bitter vegetable that Brussels sprouts have gained a reputation as something to be kept away from, but looking in the past it is an incredibly healthy veggie. Its taste can be better when combined with something savory or tangy, so no worries at all. These sprouts are a great source of vitamin K, folate and iron.  One cup of cooked Brussels sprouts contains 130 percent RDI of vitamin C. It’s not just that, it is also rich in fiber, manganese, potassium, choline and B vitamins, they also have cancer and chronic-disease fighting properties in form of phytochemicals such as antioxidants.

  1. Kale

Like the green vegetables, kale is also packed with antioxidants, considering the fact that this is one of the highest antioxidant levels of any vegetables. Only few like arugula, beet greens, cabbage, sweet potatoes, and raw garlic have higher antioxidant (ORAC) rating. ORAC measures foods ability to absorb potentially damaging free radicals which is short for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity.  Eliminating these free radicals is important because this can damage the body at the cellular level, and are a problematic presence in the formation of diseases and disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Also, kale has been proven containing cancer fighting properties and promotes urinary health.

  1. Nopales (or nopal cactus)

This food might not be so common, but apparently, nopales have been a stable part of Mexican cuisine for a long time. A resemblance of cactus with spikes and all, and also classified as desert plant. Amusingly, this food may be characterized by both fruit (in prickly pear) and vegetable (with its green pad skin). This good tasting food has been found in both United States and Europe cuisine. On nutritional side, nopales is beaming with assortment of nutritional goodies. It contains high level of B-Complex vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin and niacin which is all essential to metabolic functions of the body. Also, it is known to reduce the symptoms of inflammation and diabetes, rich in antioxidants that are good for an assortment of important functions of our immune system. It is widely known that pistachios are loved by mostly everyone.  Even in ice creams, this food was made a flavor to be enjoyed more.
